1979

The New Apostolic Church was started in Uganda in 1979. The geographic proximity and the common border with Kenya played their part of bringing the Church to Uganda. Brothers from Kenya, where the Doctrine of the New Apostolic Church had been disseminated the first time earlier, brought Testimony of the New Apostolic Church to Uganda. The Testimony started in a village called Mawero in Tororo District. A District Evangelist, now retired started to spread the Testimony towards the end of 1979, about 130 people from Mawero went to a village just across the border of Kenya, where Apostle Simon Anokoli was going to conduct a service with Holy Sealing.

1980

Only a few months after in April, 1980, the Apostle already went to Mawero in Tororo District to conduct the first service on Ugandan soil on this occasion, the Holy Spirit was administered to several hundred souls from the Tororo District. Apostle Anokoli also ordained three priests to ensure that the budding congregation would be cared for.

1982

The rapid growth which followed necessitated the establishment of some small sub-districts in this Eastern region of Uganda. The Apostle Wilbert Vovak first visited the members in Uganda in 1982, on which occasion he conducted a sealing service in Bukhaliha near Masafu in Tororo District. Several hundreds souls received the Holy Spirit. The Apostle also ordained a Rector.

Times were difficult in those days for the members in Uganda; the country was ravaged by civil war. To gather at that time, for Church services or other assemblies was very dangerous.

1985

Despite these adverse circumstances, the New Apostolic Church Uganda continued to grow. But our patience was sorely tested, because at that time the new Apostolic Church had not yet been officially registered with the Government Authorities and this meant that the New Apostolic Church Uganda was not entitled to hold services. Eventually the comforting reached us that the Apostle Alfred Walter Parry would come in February, 1985.

Apostle Walter Alfred Parry, who assisted Apostle Wilbert Vovak at that time in East Africa, arrived in Uganda as scheduled. Seruma arranged the service for which 25 members came to Kibuli Congregation. But the authorities would not even allow the Apostle to conduct a Divine service under a tree. Spontaneously Apostle Walter A. Parry invited all the gathering members to Kampala where he conducted a service for them in Speke Hotel lobby on 19th February, 1985. Thirty two (32) members from Kampala District and surroundings received the Holy Spirit, Edward Seruma was ordained a Priest.

These few souls started testifying with great enthusiasm so that many heard about the Doctrine and the New Apostolic Church Uganda spread further in the year to follow.

1989

Four years later, on 2nd December, 1989 Chief Apostle Richard Fehr ordained several Apostles in Kinshasa in Zaire by then now the Democratic Republic of Congo, among them the District Elder Edward Seruma, was ordained the first Ugandan Apostle. It took another four years before further Apostles could be ordained for Uganda.

1993

On 14th February, 1993 in Esslingen in Germany, four brothers i.e. Francis Webisa, Albert Muzaale, James Kimera and Lackson Mugalla from Tanzania were ordained Apostles of Jesus by Chief Apostle Richard Fehr. The work of our heavenly Father Blossomed in every corner of the country of Uganda. Many congregations were opened and thousands of souls were Baptised and sealed by the four Apostles in Uganda. Uganda was divided into Districts i.e. the Uganda Central District and the Northern Uganda, Apostle Kimera was for Mukono and Jinja district. Apostle Muzaale was for Uganda South East. Apostle Francis Webisa was for Uganda East. Though Uganda had four Apostles the work was still too big because the Church was growing tremendously. The Apostle Wilbert Vovak allowed Five Apostles from Kenya to come to Uganda to conduct sealing services. The five Apostles from Kenya were:

  1. Ap. Simon Anokoli
  2. Ap. Daniel Njuguna
  3. Ap. Francis Kamunyu
  4. Ap. Patrick M. Mutava
  5. Ap. Fanuel Nono

The work in Uganda was spread in four fronts:

Area                                       Apostle

Eastern Uganda        -            Ap. Simon Anokoli (Kenyan)

Mbale                         -            Ap. Daniel Njuguna (Kenyan)

Central                        -           Ap. Walter Alfred Parry (British)

Western                      -           Ap. Deppner (Canadian) and Ap. Kiboba (Rwandese)

Many Churches were built in the work of the Lord supported by District Apostle Michael Kraus and District Apostle Erwin Wagner in Canada District grew. Many souls were sealed and hundreds of administration brothers were ordained. We were all surprised by its rapid growth. This was unpredictable. But it was steady increase in membership in offering. Seminars were conducted by brothers from USA and Canada. These seminars one could call learning by doing. We also practised the procedure at Holy Baptism and Holy Sealing on such occasions. The Brothers from USA and Canada conducted seminars dealing with confirmation and Sunday School. These seminars helped to train local ministers.
